5 Common Christmas Decorations
Christmas time is upon us and that means it’s the time to decorate the interior and even the exterior of our homes – but which Christmas decorations should you utilise in order to get the best effect and to make your home feel festive? If you don’t know which decorations to use, here are what we believe to be the 5 most common Christmas decorations of all time and how you can use them throughout your home.
#5 –Tinsel
Tinsel is a wonderful invention that comes in many sizes, colours and textures; it can also be used in a variety of different ways. Some of the best known methods of utilising tinsel include decorating the fireplace, windowsills, ceilings and most importantly; the Christmas tree. Tinsel is also one of the cheapest decorations that you can purchase for your house and will fit in with the majority of themes – tinsel is so useful that it can even be used for other holidays and occasions.
#4 – Candles
Candles are also a very effective method of decorating your home although they can pose a potential health and safety threat due to them igniting nearby materials. If you use candles to decorate your home at Christmas it’s essential that you keep them out of reach of children and pets; place the candle in an area where it will not be disturbed and cannot ignite any materials, especially flammable materials.
Candles create a perfect romantic atmosphere and are best used as the evening grows dark and the lights are out; there’s something about watching the flicker of a flame with a loved one that’s incredibly special.
#3 – Wreath
A wreath is a traditional Christmas decoration that is often hung at the entrance to a household; the wreath was once believed to ward away evil spirits and welcome luck into the home depending upon the plants or flowers that were used to create the wreath.
Wreaths can also be used as centrepieces on tables or can be hung above the fire next to your stockings.
#2 – Christmas Lights
Fairy/Christmas lights are not the most traditional of Christmas decorations and they are certainly not the oldest either; however they have quickly become one of the most popular Christmas decorations. Fairy lights are used to decorate houses all year round but more of these fairy lights are used during the run up to Christmas and throughout early January.
Fairy lights are commonly used to decorate the exterior of the house, items or objects within the garden and the Christmas tree. There have been a few incidents of house fires caused by fairy lights that lead to the production of Led Christmas lights; the LED lights do not produce as much infrared light and so they do not produce the same amount of heat as ordinary Christmas lights.
#1 – Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is what we believe to be the most common Christmas decoration of all as the majority of homes will have at last one Christmas tree; however other homes may have more than one Christmas tree in their house.
The Christmas tree can come in a number of different shapes and sizes and can also be decorated in an assortment of ways; most Christmas trees are decorated with tinsel, lights or baubles.
There are many other types of decoration that you can utilise in order to make your home feel more festive; for inspiration on how to decorate your home or for the best selection of decorations you can get in touch with us here at UK Christmas World.
